Our very own Atlanta Falcons will be playing in the Super Bowl this weekend and our state couldn’t be prouder! As we will all be rising up to witness the game, it is important to note that the dangers of drunk driving is closely linked to what many regard as a “national holiday.” The city of Atlanta has been gearing up for the main event and want Georgians to be responsible if they have been drinking alcohol.

According to the NHTSA, every 51 minutes someone is killed in America due to drunk driving. This day is no exception, therefore we are stressing that you and your loved ones make a game plan before the party begins. The NHTSA has suggested the following tips for a memorable and safe weekend:
- Know the rules! A blood alcohol level of .08 or higher is illegal in America to operate a vehicle. Getting pulled over, arrested and prosecuted can hit you hard; as the average DUI costs $10,000. Unlike football, the penalties are much worse than a false start or off-sides!
- Be Safe! If you have had too much to drink, the best thing you can do is to either stay put or call an Uber, Lyft or taxi. The safest plan you can make is one that ensures your safety and the safety of others.
- Rely on your teammates! If you feel like other friends or family have consumed too much alcohol, make sure that they are being responsible as well. In addition, if a loved one chooses to stay sober in order to be the designated driver, make sure that you give them first dibs on the wings, dips and chips!
- The NHTSA states that an average of three people will die in a drunk driving accident during the broadcast of the Super Bowl. In 2015, 10,265 people were killed in drunk driving crashes – this doesn’t include the number of drunk driving accidents with only bodily injuries. Therefore, don’t ever choose driving under the influence because everyone loses.
Although we cannot control the outcome for our Falcons, we can surely make responsible plays to ensure a safe and fun weekend. Rise Up Falcons Fans from the attorneys at Kaine Law!!
